Filming

We filmed parts of are to minute film opening. we have a little girl whom we have named Zoe, and she is sitting in her room drawing, she then picks up a dolls and 'kills' it, we then shot a scene where Joe entered the room the next day and put down a paper, on this parer was the crime the girl had committed.

So we filmed parts of our 2 minute film and it went well, we had a slight problem with my loft as it wouldn't close and it was in the shot, luckily Charlotte was able to hold up the loft while we filmed. When filming Joe had to walk around her. we over came this problem really well and you cant tell that Charlotte was standing right by the camera holding up the loft :D
Charlotte holding up the loft :D

we had some fun experimenting with different camera shots, at one point we put Charlotte under my sisters bed and filmed from there which created the effect we were looking for, where you could see whats going on but you couldn't see the characters face which is what we wanted.
we used the stool to hold up the camera as the tripod wouldn't fit under the bed. the stool was not shown in the shot but it worked effectively as a tripod.

When filming we shut the curtains and turned on a small lamp to shine light into the central point of the room where i would be sitting. This created a really nice effect where the lighting was black and white with a hint of purple, it helped create a creepy feel to the film. while filming i was surrounded by creepy drawing of people dying or of ways to die, we drew these before filming. we drew the creepy drawings because the little girl was twisted and liked things to do with death. I had one problem when i dropped the doll and start smiling, but when watching it back the noise is really effective, it sounds as if i am breaking someones neck, which was really good as it really fits in so well. So we are going to have to edit out the bit where i drop it, but keep in the noise.

Me and my doll :D

We made a mock newspaper which we used in our filming. This will be used to help explain the story with the top paragraph becasue it relates to what Zoe did to the rag doll / voodoo doll. This shows that what she is doing isnt just her playing but that what she does to the doll happens in real life. We have decided not to show how it happends, whether Zoe does the actions or not, becasue we believe this causes suspicion to the viewer which relates to the genre.

Editing the continutity task :D

We have now finished editing are continuity task :]
im really pleased with the results and even though it is embarrassing to watch the script is a funny script to listen to and watch
Editing was a good experience and it has given us a small insight into what we have to do when editing for are main 2 minute film.

Editing a close up of my face... this was a clip where i laughed while filming so we cut it out

We are due to start filming for our 2 minute film on Thursday 25th

Filming Preperation :]

So we are yet to film due to lack of camera, but we have planned it all :]
i am going to be the main person being filmed, i will still play an important part in filming the actual piece
We are going to use my sisters bedroom as the main filming area as we need a small child's bedroom and we need it to look authentic :]
This is my sisters bedroom... we thought it was good as its quite childlike but not to childlike

This is her bedroom after its been cleaned out... the empty feel of the room makes the room seem lonely, which adds to the feel of our film.

We have decided to film are title sequence in a park, we were thinking maybe the park by school but we are yet to decide that yet

Filming the Continuity task :D

Yeyy!!
Today we filmed are continuity task, we stuck to the 180 degree rule and made some interesting shots of are conversation.
I really enjoyed filming as it was a fun experience and it was nice to get behind the camera and experiment with different shots.

Charlotte filming Joe and me

We used different camera shots to show different sides of the characters :]

During the filming... one angle of are action match

Filimg was good fun... i have a habit of playing with my arms or fiddling in some way so that was a problem when on camera, but apart from that it went quite smoothly... we worked together as a team and we had a camera each that we positioned in a place that we though would be effective :]

Me on camera in the camera position i chose :D

We have began editing are video, but haven't finished yet
So thats it for now

Study of two film openings

Both the film openings i have chose are from the webiste :- www.artofthetitle.com

The first film opening i chose was Edward Scissorhands, its a simple title sequence that doesnt show much, mainly images that can help show what the film is about.

Camera shots, angles, composition

• names of actors and film are shown throughout the opening
• tilt of scissors
• dolly shot going up stairs
• zoom out on inventors contraption
• zoom in

Editing

• short takes of various things
• superimposition merging two clips together
• fade out into title of film
• fade in into

Mise en Scene

• cobwebs = unclean horror
• gas attendant dressed in grungy clothing and seems threatening
• setting= abandoned gas house
• university= typical american horror setting

Sound

• music, choir singing a sadish song

Narrative
• restricted – you don’t really see anything

The second film opening i chose was mission impossible, it is a really fast paced opening and it is mainly short takes.

Camera shots, angles, composition

• Close up on eyes
• Close up on bloddy hands
• Close up on lit match
• Mid shot of computer screen
• mid shot of stabbing

Editing
• short takes – adds to the dramatic effect
• long take on the lighting of a match
• jump shot of a women walking
• really short takes on peoples faces

Mise en Scene
• blood = murder
• passports, FBI badges = crime
• explosions = thriller

Sound
• Mission impossible theme tune

Narrative
Resticed - its so fast paced you cant really tell what is going on

2 minute film idea :]

On Friday are group came up with a idea for our 2 minute film idea :]
we have began story boarding but we haven't filled in much due to thinking of the idea practically the whole lesson :]

We have decided that we want to have a teenage girl with the mind of a child, playing with dolls. whatever happens to the dolls she is playing with happens in real life e.g. if a doll 'dies' someone in real life dies....

Are group just need to find an appropriate place to film this as the school doesn't have any child like rooms in it, once we have figured this out and finished are storyboard we can begin filming.

Questionaire :]

We have written a questionaire to help us decide on which sub genre and settings ect to use in are final 2 minute film, the questions are as followed:

Q1. Do you like horror?
Q2. What type of horror films do you like? E.g. physiological thriller (paranormal activity)
Q3. Do you prefer more complicated plot lines or simple ones?
Q4. Do you prefer the character to be killed at the end, or escape?
Q5. Do you prefer main stream films or more experimental films?
Q6. Do you prefer horror films to be more realistic of more fantasy?
Q7. What sort of setting do you prefer? Urban or rural?
Q8. Do you like having background music over the film?
Q9. Would you like the main character to be male or female?
Q10. Would you like the character to be courageous or sensitive?
Q11. Favorite horror film? Why?

We are going to use some of these questions to help us with are final idea :]

My group are yet to film are preliminary task due to Joe not being in the day of filming, we will be filming next lesson :]
